We received some important info yesterday from Haiti!

After reading this, make sure you leave a comment below…even if it is a "got it" or "ok".  It seems that some of you are getting all the info and some are not…. so to be sure just put your name and a response.  THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Haiti Logistics
1.  We need someone to bring a guitar and djembe drum…

2.  You will need a sleeping pad for Haiti… mattresses will not be available.

3.  We will be taking bucket baths.  You may want to practice at home before you leave. (We will go over this at training camp.

4.  There is no running water at our facility, but we will have clean water to drink from a purified source.  It comes in 5 gallon jugs like you see here in the states.

5.  We will be living at an orphanage with about 30 kids.  Every evening, we will be eating dinner with them.

6.  We will have a western style toilet, yet you will have to use a bucket with water to flush it.

7.  You will not have internet access in Haiti.  As leaders, we will be posting updates to the blog for your parents.  We will ask some participant to write a blog and then a leader will type it and post it.  AIM leadership will be going over this at training camp.

7.  There will be more information to come within the next couple of days… so make sure you are checking your email at least once a day.

  1. Clarify- a sleeping pad, a sleeping bag, and sheets??? Are all those needed? Thanks for the update!

  2. Thanks for the update. Kate’s on a team-building trip until tomorrow. I’ll get the info to her.

  3. If nobody else has the djembe drum my youth group has one that i can TRY to bring along. but it would take up my entire carry-on.. and i have to bring gluten free food… haha i don’t know, just thinking out loud

  4. Alright, bucket baths, sleeping pads, western-style toilets, and a djembe drum…got it! 🙂

  5. Does anyone have the ability to bring drums that are smaller than djembe – maybe little congos?

  6. Actually, I don’t have any drums…I just thought they were interesting…

  7. Brandon or Renee, will the guitar I’m bringing count as my carry-on? On the packing list it says if you bring an instrument that doesn’t fit into your backpack to contact your leaders.

  8. Kendyl…the sleeping bag is for extra padding for your sleeping pad and the sheet is for covering. If you have a really good sleeping pad then you may not want the sleeping bag.

Abigail… I remember one night in Cambodia that I wanted to sleep like the natives on the floor and the next day I could hardly walk. I highly recommend a sleeping pad. If not a sleeping bag may not give you enough cushion.

  9. Okay! Can we bring a sun shower bag thing? Like a bag you put water in and then put it in the sun to warm up?
