Journal entry from one of our participants:

After a long day of traveling, I finally landed in Atlanta! I walked what seemed to be 5 miles to baggage claim (I missed the memo that there was a tram) to be greeted by the hot humidity and the smiling faces of fellow teams and leaders. A long bus ride with an accidental nap landed me at the AIM base in Gainesville. I checked in and met my teammates who I'd spend my time with over the next few weeks. That night I had my first experience with the enormous bugs and fell asleep on the dirt to the weirdly loud noises that they made.

July 1st we began the day with devotions and breakfast, which was interesting… We listened to many "sessions" and interacted together with our teams. The afternoon brought another meal that I found interesting… As the day progressed, I could see and feel our team connecting and bonding. A team activity brought out more evidence of this. I then proceeded to take my first ever cold shower from a hose. Although chilly, it felt so good to be able to take one! It seems that every minute I grow closer to my teammates and strengthen my relationship with God.

The more I hear about Haiti, the more I want to jump on the plane! Some things will be interesting there, such as the language barrier and cultural differences. People who recently returned from Haiti told us that Haitians literally shove their babies at you because they can't care for them! I'm interested, excited, and nervous to see what it'll be like to live in Haiti. For the remainder of training camp we'll be doing team building activites, sessions, worship, hearing testimonies, preparing as best as possible for our trip to Haiti…and of course, sweating!!!
